07 Jun Vaca Chic with fab’rik

Outfit Crushes: entire look is fab’rik

If you’ve been a long time follower of ours you’ll know that another collaboration with fab’rik has been well overdue. We have been rocking fab’rik since last SUMMER ever since we discovered the brand. Thankfully, the first and only Ohio location is extremely local for Bri & I and we take full advantage of it. If you don’t find something you love online, (and you’re a 614 native) you’ll definitely have to check out the Easton location. They get new styles in multiple times a week and they only carry 6 of each item, so there’s a guarantee not everyone will have what you have. Aside from housing incredibly trendy pieces, the store owners are some of my favorite people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Talk about some selfless, welcoming, and humble human beings. If you get the opportunity to talk to the mother/daughter duo that owns the store, tell them Mel sent ya ūüôā They also post secret discounts, sales, and new products on their store Instagram page, which you can check out here @fabrikeaston

I will actually be in store THIS SATURDAY 6/10 from 2-4pm¬†to gift a fab‚Äôrik surprise to a lucky winner in store. I’ll draw and announce the winner during the event and give tips on how to style the piece. So come on in & say hello.

Now let’s get onto the outfit!

I’m typically not a colorful person, nor a pattern person, but I honestly fell in love with this palm print romper when I saw it. I think it is the perfect piece to wear this season, whether you’re on vacation or doing fun Summer activities. The frill on the hem of the shorts makes it very feminine and flirty. The plunging neckline was a bit intimidating for me since I have a larger bust, but I decided to throw on a lacey bralette to feel a little more comfortable. This is totally up to you. There’s also a smaller button closure to cover it up completely.

Since the romper is such an incredible statement piece, I wanted to step up my accessorizing, but still keep it simple and cohesive. I decided to style it with some sparkle gold hoops, a thin gold bangle, and some KILLER nude and gold heels. If you haven’t peeped the gold heel…….. link below is all I’m saying!

Hopefully this look gave you some Summer time vaca inspiration for this year. Fab’rik has tons of super cute printed pieces if this is up your ally. As always, links to everything are down below.

31 Mar The W Nail Bar

Alright we are giving 5 stars to The W Nail Bar in the Short North. Here’s why:¬†

  1. The location-¬†This little shop is locally owned by two sisters. It’s located just south of OSU campus, which is super convenient for Mel & I while we are in school. If you’re waiting for your appointment there’s tons of cute restaurants and shops to check out in the mean time.¬†
  2. The employees-¬†Everyone who works there¬†is great.¬†All of the technicians are extremely welcoming and conversational even if they’re not working with you. I had an appointment with Brittany and absolutely loved her. She explained everything she was using and asked me questions about my preferences. All in all was very thorough and I had great conversations with her. If you see an adorable curly blonde who loves to smile it’s probably her!¬†
  3. The color choices-¬†TONS of fun options. ¬†Brittany told me they have 6 polishes exclusive to their location. My favorite was the JRJ brand. It’s sourced from my hometown, Westerville, and is even Vegan friendly.¬†
  4. The experience- Three words to describe it: above and beyond. If you get a pedicure you get to pick natural ingredients to add to your water. When I went they had the options of buttermilk, coffee, honey, epsom salt, peppermint bath bombs, rose petals, mint, and chamomile.  I chose the buttermilk to help with moisture and my feet were definitely softer afterwards. The basic pedicure also includes epsom salt scrub, cocoa butter lavender lotion, and hot towels.
  5. The ethics- Almost everything that is put on your skin and nails is all naturalРthe scrubs, lotion, etc. How awesome.

Did I mention this article isn’t even sponsored, I just like it THAT much. I’ll stop raving now, but seriously 614 natives you have to try it.¬†

Here’s the address for your convenience: 946 N High St. Check out their website here

22 Oct Outfit Crush x Royal Factory

When we got asked to collaborate with local boutique, Royal Factory for Columbus’ High Ball event, we couldn’t have been more excited! Being a little unfamiliar with the boutique ourselves, we decided to check them out. Royal Factory is a local boutique that showcases designers who repurpose and reconstruct apparel. They have new pieces made to look distressed and vintage and previously loved pieces made into something completely new. Everything is truly one of a kind too, so you never know what you could find when you pop into their shop.

Saturday night they hosted a High Ball pre-party with a live band, models, and complimentary drinks. I got the opportunity to style the models and have them rep some Royal Factory merch, as well as help style some customers. Bri & I made a DIY life sized Instagram frame and some pink cupcakes for everyone to interact with. It was a pretty fun night!

If you haven’t had the opportunity to stop into Royal Factory yet I suggest you do so ASAP! I found myself trying not to buy things that the models were wearing because of how unique each of their pieces really are. If you wanna check them out on Instagram, you can follow them here @royalfactory.

Below are some more pics from the event and some models that I styled.

12 Oct 614 Start Ups– Current Spotlight: TATY

Okay, babes, you have to check out this adorable brand we found called TATY that was started right out of our native town of Columbus. TATY is a newly established trendy brand with products that display cute hand drawn graphics and charming sayings.

Bri picked out this particular style that has a hand drawn feeling to it. The¬†makeup drawings fit her¬†feminine style so well that she couldn’t pass it up. Mel picked out a canvas bag¬†with lightening bolts that reads “KEEP OUT” because it summed up how she feels about her stuff pretty well. TATY has so many different styles fit for every personality. We chose to use our canvas bags as¬†makeup bags or even pencil pouches for school. Below are some clickable links to shop for yourself ūüôā

Have a lovely week!

08 Oct Anthropologie Fashion Show

Last night I had the amazing opportunity to work behind the scenes at the 2016 Anthropologie Fashion Show here in the Short North. I was so excited when asked to be a part of the backstage crew because Anthropologie has been one of my favorite stores for years now.

The main themes from last night showcased autumnal layering, pattern mixing, 70’s inspired romance, and sophisticated blues. The color palettes were rich and vibrant with deep blues, vibrant plums, and mustards. I found myself taking mental notes of things I wanted to buy at the end of the show. My personal favorites were the textures. I was loving all the velvet and suede in multiple pieces. These are huge trends for this season and I have noticed myself adding pieces with this kind of texture to my wardrobe. (If you’ve been reading our blog posts for a while, you’ll see what I mean!)

I was working backstage most of the evening helping models during their quick changes and timing their walks on the runway. Overall it was a super fun and successful night! This was the first show for the Short North location, but I’m sure they will be hosting more events like this in the future.

Below are some pics of the sips & sweets that they had for all the guests.

27 Sep She Has a Name

When Mel was ordering her regular iced mocha from the Roosevelt, she stumbled upon an amazing organization at the check out counter while she was waiting to hand the cashier her Visa. The green water color logo immediately caught her eye and the title, “She Has a Name” sparked some curiosity. We decided to look into the organization online and after reading we immediately had felt a connection.

She Has a Name is an organization that engages the Columbus community to focus their hearts on getting survivors of human trafficking back into society. Not only does this great organization help meet the urgent physical and emotional needs of these women, but they want them to be healed, transitioned, and thriving in their community.

One of the main ways She Has a Name transitions women back into the work place is through education and¬†employment¬†programs. These newly saved victims¬†can¬†receive¬†education thanks to She Has a Name’s partnership with Harrison College and find work shortly after. Clean Turn & Shan Cleaning are just two of the groups¬†She Has A Name partners with regarding job opportunities for victims.¬†Clean Turn and Shan Cleaning are companies in Columbus that help all people with employment barriers find work. They are currently staffing over a dozen Columbus human trafficking survivors.

We would love to see as many of you help this cause as possible by either learning more about sex trafficking, volunteering to help, or buying a t-shirt to support the programs we mentioned above. Sex trafficking affects hundreds of thousands of people and is a larger problem than many people think. Our goal is to make a difference in this positive direction and you can help us and these women! They need you!

19 Jul One Line Coffee Shop

Here comes another coffee post from yours truly… what can I say, LOCAL coffee shops are the key to my heart. You think I’m kidding.

One Line Coffee is one of my favorite coffee shops in Columbus, Ohio of all time. I’m almost kicking myself for even sharing it with you guys because I want to keep it a secret and enjoy my iced honey lattes all to myself. However, I’m feeling like spreading the love, so if you live in Columbus, or are stopping by the Short North area, be sure to stop in this adorable little shop.

One Line Coffee is self explanatory in the way that they truly do cut out the middle man and make it one straight line of sourcing. Their main mission is “…doing everything we can to ensure farmers and workers are treated well, and earn a livable wage. It means telling the stories of our coffees, connecting you to our farmers. And it means matching the passion of our farmers with our own passion for roasting.” If this doesn’t make you fall more in love with this place, I suggest ordering their iced (or hot) honey latte. It is my all time favorite drink to order from there, but if you’re not as adventurous, their regular batch coffee is warm & delicious as well. I promise, they never¬†disappoint.¬†

08 Jun Alchemy Juice Bar & Cafe

Why is it that fresh fruit tastes so much better in the Summer time? Well, how about a smoothie bowl loaded up with fresh bananas and acai berries, topped with your choice of coconut, goji berries, granola, or all of the above?

Alchemy is one of my new favorite places to stop and grab a healthy snack at post workout or any time of the day really. I went with a really good friend of mine who has been vegan for a little while now, but vegetarian for over a year. While I have also been vegetarian for 9 years, we can both appreciate any sort of food place that offers delicious options without meat being a main part of the dishes.

Megan ordered a Blueberry Almond Butter bowl with a side of toast, topped with fresh bananas and spicy organic peanut butter. I decided to order something new this time, so I went with The Rio – which has organic acai, banana, apple juice, and toppings of sliced¬†bananas and sweet granola. If your mouth isn’t watering yet, then maybe you need to re-read the past two sentences.¬†

Alchemy also offers fresh salads packaged daily, cold pressed juices, sandwiches, coffee, tea, and even more options of topped off toast. So, there are truly so many options for all different kinds of taste buds. I typically go for the smoothie bowl every time, but I am wanting to try their fresh salads with a side of cold pressed juice sometime soon! The fact that Alchemy is so close to my apartment in downtown Columbus makes it a serious addiction. So, if you are a Columbus native and haven’t given it a shot yet, I would high recommend stopping in and trying something off their menu.¬†

Visit alchemyjuicecafe.com for more information.

Have a great week lovelies!

17 May Whole Foods Market

Okay ladies if you haven’t been to Whole Foods Market you NEED to go! I have lived in Columbus, Ohio for 19 years and surprisingly AND unfortunately I made my first trip to Whole Foods this week. Columbus has three suburb locations: Dublin, Upper Arlington, and Easton so I really have had no excuse to not make my way there! But hey don’t worry if you’re not a Columbus reader, they have tons and tons of locations elsewhere!

¬†If you’re not one of the million foodies following this place, Whole Foods Market is essentially a high end grocery store with lots of healthy, organic, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. You can buy all of your needed groceries there, stop in for a tea or coffee at their cute little cafe inside, take home a delicious prepared lunch from their eat-in section of the store, or if you’re of age grab some friends for their wine and beer happy hour. I went to Whole Foods for lunch with my mama and we were both in heaven. I got chicken tacos with lettuce, cheese, and guacamole from their build-your-own taco station. Mmmm I’m getting hungry again just thinking about ’em!¬†But seriously if you haven’t been go go go because you wont be disappointed!¬†

14 May CCAD Fashion Show

Last night was by far one of the coolest nights of my college career thus far! I had the opportunity to work back stage and get an inside look at the 2016 Columbus College of Art & Design Annual Fashion Show.

Columbus has reached #3 in the top cities with most resident fashion designers in America, just trailing behind LA & NY. So this fashion show is a big deal for many Columbus natives and even non Columbus residents. People come in from all over the country to see the collections that the Senior class at CCAD has put together.

I have been to this event twice before, but nothing compares to being back stage and working with designers and models. I got the chance to work with designer, Lauren Metelitz. Her collection was Spanish matador inspired, so it featured a lot a monochromatic color palette with silver detailing. The details in her garments were well crafted and truly beautiful. Some of the pieces had hand sewn fringe, lace up detailing, and innovative cut outs in the fabric that pulled the looks together as a whole. Below are some pictures of her finished garments that were featured in the show.

I also had the chance to hang out with one of the models back stage! Olivia Saunders was definitely a pleasure to work with throughout the night and hang out with at the after party.

It is safe to say that I will definitely be returning next year to work backstage again with next years seniors. The rush of the quick changes, the intensity of the runway, and the anticipation of seeing the designers satisfied with their work has me very excited for my senior year. I can’t wait to see what next year entails and what the future¬†holds for me when it is time to have my collection appear onstage. If you are a Columbus resident, or simply touring the city next May, I would highly recommend buying a ticket and watching the show. You won’t regret it!
