06 May 2017 Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Hi everyone & happy Spring!

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, so I figured I’d put together some gift ideas for you. My mom is hands down one of the most important people in my life and my #1 best friend. I try to celebrate her every day, but Mother’s Day is the perfect time to show your mom just how much you appreciate her. Mom’s have chosen to be selfless since day one when they decided to bring you into the world. And if your mom is anything like mine, she will try to reject any sort of gift you give her, so sometimes you just gotta smother her in love anyway!

  1. Skin Care – who doesn’t like new makeup? I don’t think I’ve ever met a single person. Some of my favorite makeup essentials that are quick and easy for busy moms on the go are:
    1. Benefit Cosmetics Puff Off Eye Gel – this stuff is amazing for moisturizing and preventing wrinkles (I use this one every morning myself!)
    2. Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm – I can also personally vouch for this product because it is so quick and easy to clean your face after a long day. The formula is also very gentle and works on the most sensitive skin types. This has become a holy grail for me.
    3. Fresh Rose Face Mask – first of all, the smell of this mask is amazing- I could eat it. Secondly, it is so gentle and moisturizing (even on oily skin) and helps balance out the overall coloration of you skin. What mother doesn’t need a nice relaxing face mask at least once a week?
    4. LUSH Massage Bars & Bath bombs – you already KNOW these are the bomb (literally) If your mom has never tried one of these guys, you serioussssly gotta get her on board.
  2. Spa Days – going off of the skin care idea, it’s always nice to treat your mom with a gift voucher to her favorite pamper spot.
    1. Facial gift cards at your local spa
    2. Mani & Pedi gift cards at your local nail place
    3. Massage gift cards at your local spa.
    4. Hair appointment gift cards at her favorite salon that she never goes to anymore because she can’t justify spending that money on herself (mhmmm I’m calling you out on this one mom!)
  3. Fresh Flowers – I don’t think I’ve ever met a single person who doesn’t enjoy fresh flowers and they’re so easy to get at all price ranges if you’re on a budget!
  4. Mom & Daughter dates – this is my personal favorite way to spend Mother’s Day with my mom. I love taking the day off and spending every single second with my best friend.
    1. Movie dates
    2. At home movie dates
    3. At home spa dates with chocolate, ice cream, and face masks.
    4. Take her out to breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
  5. Home Made Gifts – Let’s be real, it’s never about how much money you spent, but more the thought and intent you put into the gift. Mother’s know you like the back of their hand and know what you can and can’t afford. Home made gifts are often times better than the ones you thought about buying in the first place 🙂
    1. Hand made cards
    2. Hand made paper bouquets/flowers
    3. Hand made coupons – the coupons can say anything you want your mom to have the opportunity to redeem/cash in for the next month. I always find this to be a fun and meaningful gift to receive. (I used this gift idea countless times when I was young.)
    4. A crafty picture & frame of the two of you.

The links to some of the shop-able items I mentioned will be linked down below for easy access. If this post inspired you in anyway let me know! I’d love to write more gift guide ideas if you guys are interested in reading them.

02 May Whites for Summer & Yellow Sunnies

Outfit Crushes: top – fab’rik, jeans – H&M, sandals – Bakers, sunnies – Gem & Elli

As all of you know, off the shoulder is one of my all time favorite shirt silhouettes to wear for warmer weather. It’s flattering on every single body type and shows some skin without being too much. Light wash denim & a white shirt is my fav every day combo for Spring & Summer. I got these particular jeans from H&M a few months ago and they’re actually very comfortable! They are a thicker denim with some stretch so I can wear them all day almost every day. I finished the look with some tan sandals that are a few seasons old now, but I will link others that I’m loving down below.

I threw my hair in a messy bun (that humidity thooooo🙄) & chose to accessorize with these adorable yellow aviators from an online store called Gem & Elli. We discovered them on Instagram and fell in love with their products! I went for the oversized aviator in gradient yellow to add a pop of color, but they have tons of styles to choose from. Gem & Elli is actually owned by two sisters and crafted to perfection. I’ve been wearing these glasses non stop. Tons of you guys have been asking where they’re from so we managed to hook you all up with a coupon code for 15% off! Code: “OUTFITCRUSH”

Only a few more days of finals and then I’m freeeeeeeeee!

23 Apr Denim Skirts & The Cross Body Bag

Outfit Crushes: denim skirt – Sugar Magnolia, longsleeve – Gap, heels – Jeffrey Campbell, cross body bag – fab’rik.

If you tuned into my Spring/Summer 2017 Trends blog post a few weeks ago, you’ll know that denim everything is super on trend right now. I’m a die hard jeans girl, so it shouldn’t surprise you to see me busting out a denim skirt in the warmer weather. I decided to style this light wash skirt with a navy blue t-shirt from Gap for a high contrast between the two, even though they’re both simply blue when it comes down to it.

It should also come as no surprise that I’m wearing these grey block heels by Jeffrey Campbell into the ground. They’re definitely starting to fall apart, but I’m not giving them up until I find the perfect replacement & when I do, you’ll be hearing about them haha!

Aviator sunnies are one of the most flattering styles for almost every face shape and you can get them anywhere from $2 – $450. I also finished accessorizing the look with a blush cross body bag. The cross body bag is a staple for S/S for many reasons.

1. Hands free

2) Small & Compact

3) Affordable

4) Forces you to carry less

If you don’t own a cross body bag, I don’t know what’s wrong with you. I’m kidding– but honestly there’s so many different styles and colors for all different personal styles and after you switch from your heavy tote to a smaller bag, I promise you won’t go back. Well, at least not for a few months 🙂

T-minus 2 weeks til Summer!!! Send me some good vibes for finals pleaaaaase

21 Apr Lacey Details & Blouses for Spring

Outfit Crushes: blouse – Romwe, denim – Flying Monkey, sneakers – Old Navy

I swear my daily style is always reflective of my  mood. I tend to wear more structured, monochromatic, and tailored pieces in the winter and then transition into feminine, bohemian, flowy pieces when the warmer weather starts coming around. This blouse is an example of just that.

The crazy sleeve trend has been one of my favorite trends for this past year and I don’t want it to go away anytime soon. I love flared sleeve with lace detailing instead of a traditional hem on this particular blouse. It’s perfect paired with some casual denim like I’ve done here, or with a pair of skinny dress pants to make it more office appropriate. Sometimes I like to mix feminine tops with rougher details like distressed jeans because it has a high contrast between the two styles. If you’re interested in purchasing this blouse, I would recommend going one size up to accompany a bigger bust size.

I was out getting lunch with my mom, running errands, and then headed off to work later, so I kept it casual and comfy with these super cheap kicks from Old Navy. I’m pretty sure they were under $20 and came in multiple colors. Mine are already starting to get worn down because I wear them everywhere. Everything will be linked below, as always! Xx

18 Apr Mel’s Top 5 Transitional Jackets for S/S ’17

Outfit Crushes: denim jacket – SheIn, jeans – Mother, booties – Qupid, sunnies – F21.

Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been MIA for a while, but I’m back at it with another blog post for ya. We’re finally in that transitional period where it’s sometimes chilly and sometimes warm. I love this time of year because it’s a great excuse to wear some lightweight layering pieces. I figured I’d list my top 5 favorite Spring/Summer transitional jackets for 2017.

To start, the one I’m wearing is a faded, black, distressed denim jacket from SheIn. This is a great piece to layer on top of graphic t-shirts or even just casual shirts in general. Denim on denim is pretty big right now as well, so don’t be afraid to layer with more denim jeans in different hues and shades. It looks effortless.

My second pick is another denim jacket, but in a fun color such as: cherry red, dusty pink, or yellow. S/S is a great time to start adding brighter hues to your wardrobe and staple denim jackets can be worn over and over again. I’ve linked some examples for you to check out below!

Another great transitional jacket for this time of year is a windbreaker. The casual, more laid back style is really in making athleisure wear more prominent in people’s wardrobes. Windbreakers are a great way to layer with your favorite athletic brand such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, etc. They look great over a basic white t-shirt, leggings, and sneakers.

My fourth pick is of course a bomber. Bombers made a huge comeback this year and they aren’t going away anytime soon. I think a bomber in a light weight fabric such as satin or polyester is perfect over dresses, thinner sweaters, or long sleeves. You can’t go wrong with a good bomber and like the denim jacket trend I was mentioning earlier, you can choose to make it a statement piece by purchasing one in a vibrant color to spice up your wardrobe.

Finally, I’ve gotta mention a good rain coat. If you live anywhere like Columbus, like I do, it could be 45 and cloudy in the morning, 75 and sunny in the afternoon, and then thunder storming with 40 mph winds at 6pm. You never know what the weather is going to be like and it’s always nice to be prepared. Rain coats aren’t usually the first thing I gravitate towards, but everyone needs at least one in their wardrobe. As mentioned, I’ve linked some of my favorites on my current wish list for you guys to check out below. (what I’m wearing is always linked below my signature)

Happy shopping!

17 Apr Printed & Fun Kimonos

Outfit Crushes: kimono- fab’rik, tank- Norstrom, pants- Topshop

Smiling because Mel and I had a special short north date, which included another stop at The W Nail Bar!

Okay so one of my newest obsessions: KIMONOS. I love them because they’re light, easy to throw on, and super fun to style.  Tossing one over pants and a tank just completely changes a plain, casual outfit to something much more fun. My favorites are usually bright and decorated with patterns, but I do love the cool, pastel colors in the one I’m styling here.

I attached the kimono I’m wearing and found some more I would definitely want to add to my wardrobe. Check them out in clickable links below!

03 Apr Off The Shoulder Jumpsuits & High-Low Detailing

Outfit Crushes: jumpsuit- Romwe

Here I am in pink again, are you surprised?! Yes yes I’m always wearing pink, but if you haven’t noticed I’m not seen wearing rompers too often.

The main reason I prefer two piece outfits over rompers/short jumpsuits is because of how most of them look on me from behind. The majority of them seem to lay weirdly or cling to my legs. WELL LADIES, I have found my own personal solution: high-low jumpsuits. They’re a pretty perfect combination of comfy and adorable. This one is from the online clothing store Romwe and I love love love the color (obviously) and the detailing. The off the shoulder look is probably my favorite detail with the sleeve shape close behind.

You can buy this one here, I’m definitely going to be searching for similar styles to this online, but hey in the mean time if you find anything cute leave a link in the comments below.

31 Mar The W Nail Bar

Alright we are giving 5 stars to The W Nail Bar in the Short North. Here’s why:

  1. The location- This little shop is locally owned by two sisters. It’s located just south of OSU campus, which is super convenient for Mel & I while we are in school. If you’re waiting for your appointment there’s tons of cute restaurants and shops to check out in the mean time.
  2. The employees- Everyone who works there is great. All of the technicians are extremely welcoming and conversational even if they’re not working with you. I had an appointment with Brittany and absolutely loved her. She explained everything she was using and asked me questions about my preferences. All in all was very thorough and I had great conversations with her. If you see an adorable curly blonde who loves to smile it’s probably her!
  3. The color choices- TONS of fun options.  Brittany told me they have 6 polishes exclusive to their location. My favorite was the JRJ brand. It’s sourced from my hometown, Westerville, and is even Vegan friendly.
  4. The experience- Three words to describe it: above and beyond. If you get a pedicure you get to pick natural ingredients to add to your water. When I went they had the options of buttermilk, coffee, honey, epsom salt, peppermint bath bombs, rose petals, mint, and chamomile.  I chose the buttermilk to help with moisture and my feet were definitely softer afterwards. The basic pedicure also includes epsom salt scrub, cocoa butter lavender lotion, and hot towels.
  5. The ethics- Almost everything that is put on your skin and nails is all natural– the scrubs, lotion, etc. How awesome.

Did I mention this article isn’t even sponsored, I just like it THAT much. I’ll stop raving now, but seriously 614 natives you have to try it.

Here’s the address for your convenience: 946 N High St. Check out their website here

27 Mar In New York, New York

It takes a certain kind of person to enjoy living in New York, and especially New York City. You have to be patient with large amounts of people and able to function in a fast paced environment. I love visiting the city because of the experience. It’s always nice to experience a different life style and people watch in a place like that. I honestly really enjoy venturing around the city because I feel like every time I go, I discover something new. This time around I got to go with some of my favorite people- my mom, my little sister, and a family friend who is like an Aunt to me. Who doesn’t like a weekend girls trip getaway to NYC?!

Some of the highlights of my trip included good food, historical landmarks, shopping (of course), and adventuring.

Erika- (my baby sis) is a big foodie, so it’s always fun trying new food places with her. We stayed at the La Quinta Inn on Korea Way, so the entire strip was full of Korean culture. We got dinner (and lunch the next day because it was that delicious) at Shanghai Mong. The staff was so friendly and helpful with reading the menu and answering any questions we had. We ended up loading up on Pho, veggie spring rolls, and veggie dumplings. I would highly recommend this place if you’re looking to try something new! Right before we left, we decided to grab some milk tea from Kung Fu Tea, which I probably inhaled in a matter of 5 minutes. I also enjoyed shopping in the Korean beauty shops. Their packaging is to die for! I definitely grabbed a bunny lipgloss or two…

I finally got the chance to check out the 9/11 memorial and it is 100% worth the money to see. For someone who was very young when the horrific incident happened, it was an extremely educational exhibit. The two waterfalls that are built in remembrance are absolutely breathtaking and saddening at the same time. *If you present your student I.D. you can get a pretty nice discount on tickets to the museum!!*

Shopping of course is always fun for me. I love hitting up Mango, Zara, and Top Shop because I usually only get to shop those places online because we don’t have any here in Columbus. If you followed me along on my Instagram story, you already know I did some damage.. HAHA stay tuned because I’ll be styling those pieces on my Instagram and future blog posts. If you guys have any recommendations for when I go back, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me! I would love to try even more things on my next trip.

27 Mar The Camo-Trend & NYC Street Wear

Outfit Crushes: camo jacket – Ci Sono, white bodysuit – Express, leggings – LuLu Lemon, heels – Jeffrey Campbell.

Happy Monday, everyone! I just got home from an awesome girls trip from NYC and am definitely feeling a bit sluggish after rushing around and adventuring for the past three days. A NYC blog post full of places I went will be coming soon, so keep an eye out for that in our Travel section on the blog.

I wanted to give you guys a little excerpt of one of my outfits that I wore in NY and all the deets on it. Anyone else been liking camo lately? If it is styled correctly, I think it’s a great way to maintain the neutrals, but also have fun with a pattern in your look. Too much camo is definitely a thing in my book, so I find this jacket to be the perfect amount. You can find a good camo jacket anywhere from fast fashion retailers to high end designers. I’m thinking about embellishing this one to make it a little more personalized. I kept it casual with some black leggings and a white body suit.

The white body suit definitely helps brighten up the look and I think the zipper detailing down the middle is a nice feature even if it won’t actually be used.

While I was in NYC, I definitely took note of some trends while I was shopping and just walking around the city. Some of my favorite trends I noticed were:

  1. All things leather. It’s still pretty chilly and rainy in New York at the moment, so people were definitely layering up with leather pieces like jackets, leggings, and coats. I snagged a leather jacket from Mango, while I was there as well!
  2. Statement sneakers. Loungewear is so big right now. It’s becoming more and more acceptable to wear sneakers and leggings from day to night. I’m loving this because of how comfortable it is! Statement sneakers are a great thing to invest in for this Spring & Summer season.
  3. Statement sleeves. No surprise here, but sleeves are a huge focal point at the moment. Ruffles, embellishments, flares, etc can be seen on anything from long sleeves t-shirts to sweaters to outerwear coats. I am a HUGE fan of this trend! I think it’s so fun and playful.

As always, links will be listed below.

Have a great rest of your week!
